Three problems with a V1 backpack. Does that mean you need a new design?

The classic prototyping trap: fixing one problem and breaking three things that already worked.
Was talking to a guy building an ultralight pack. His V1 had been out on a few trips and came back with some pretty annoying problems.
Not enough room for winter gear. The X-frame bowing outward when the pack was stuffed full. And with a heavier load but less stuff inside, the pack kept pulling his shoulders back.
Three problems. Sounds like the whole carry system needs a redesign, right?
Not so fast.
The volume issue might just mean he needs a bigger winter pack. The frame bowing? Could be the carbon stays, or how the rod ends are seated. And the shoulder pull? I'd check the load lifter height and frame geometry before tearing anything apart.
Here's the funny part: he actually liked how the X-frame carried under normal conditions.
So why throw away the good stuff?
Every sample costs time and money. Change five things at once, and you might end up with a completely different backpack without knowing which change actually helped.
